Musharraf sentenced to death by Special Court

Date:17th December, 2019: Special court announces death penalty to former president/ military dictator General Pervez Musharraf in long trailed high treason case.

Firstly seen in the history of Pakistan, a special court comprising a three-member bench, headed by Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth, announced the death sentence for the former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in the long-drawn high treason case against him.

Currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the former military dictator was facing high treason case for clamping the state of emergency on Nov 3, 2007.

Booked in December 2013 and indicted on March 31, 2014, the the special court was presented with the evidence in September the same year against Ex-ruler of the state.

Despite several reminders by the court, Musharraf remained at large and didn’t show up to his case hearings, and eventually got declared an absconder by the court on June 19, 2016.
